Mavis Warboys thinks the new siting is
great. "It's much easier to get to now, she said, "And it's a lot better for disabled
people. I never used to bother with the
old market."
Linda Teden of T M & L Teden, selling fruit and veg, didn't want to move from their old site but business was still good.
With people queuing in droves, they certainly seemed to be doing a roaring trade!

John Godfrey of Tic Toc Timing, selling fashion jewellery and watches, was on his 3rd week at the new market. "I wasn't on the old market, but I'm doing well here. My only gripe is that we are not getting electricity which will be bad in the Winter."

Ron and Dick of R & D Meats are
familiar faces having been plying their
trade for 16 years at the old market.
"Trade has always been good," said Ron,
"but it's even better now we've moved."

Balloon man, Robert Pavity, has had his
spot in the town for years. "I was the
first to have a licence from the centre
management," he claimed.
"Business does seem a bit brisker
since the market moved here," he added.

Fesal, Yasmeen and Ali were trying out
their luck as newcomers to the Hemel
market. Their stall, called Odds and Ends
does what it says on the can. They stock
fashion / costume jewellery, luxury shawls, stationery, batteries, kitchen ware and a whole lot more. It's one of those stalls you could easily pass by without noticing - but well worth a closer look. The prices are incredibly cheap. In fact, I picked up a cluster of hair 'bobbles' in an array of designs for just £1. That's what I call a bargain! The boys and their mum said business wasn't too good because people weren't stopping to look properly, but they were going to soldier on for a few weeks.

Jamel, of J & Bs Donuts who has been selling his tasty treats for 8 years, says he hasn't noticed any increase in trade although says their does seem to be a lot more people about.

Julia and Ian Bateman are trying out Hemel market as Ian's first business venture. Ian said he definitely wouldn't have gone on the old market site but is hopeful this new site will be successful. Their impressive display of candles and fittings would do justice to the most discerning home and GoHemel wish them a prospurous future.

Local residents, Roy and Liz Kitchener, are generally pleased with the new site although they did have their gripes. "I think it's disgusting that an ambulance had to fight its way through the market crowds," said Roy. A valid point we thought.
"Also," added Liz, "It's a theives paradise. There's so many places to hide."

Tasty Grill caterers were 18 months at the old market site. Owners, Shaun and Karen think business is better here at the new site. If you're feeling peckish, check out Karen's weekly specials. The pair also cater for home events.

T Mahmood didn't have a stall at the old market but thought he'd give the new one a go. He sells leather belts, lighters, wallets, batteries and watches at excellent prices and says he's very hopeful of doing a good trade at Hemel.

GoHemel Comment

The general concensus seems to be that the new market is popular. It certainly was bustling with activity when we visited and stall-holders along with members of the public were hopeful that it would prosper.
